Like bones in the human body make up a person, a digital portrait has different parts that make up the final piece of work.
An infographic is a visual representation of information that is composed of more visuals than text. The purpose of this infographic is to showcase the different elements of what makes up a digital portrait. Anatomy is the structure of an object and the other pieces that it is composed of. For anyone who is first starting off as a digital artist, it is crucial to learn the anatomy of a portrait. Additionally, they should be familiar with different brushes, brush sizes, colours, and tools to communicate a specific message.

Every work of art communicates another message and is interpreted differently based on the tools and colours used. The goal of this Miley Cyrus portrait was to illustrate a dramatic effect with a hint of colour, which is why I used the colours and tools that I did.
In this infographic, I broke down the different tools and elements that make up the portrait of Miley Cyrus. This is one of my favourite portraits because of the colour palette and effects. Believe it or not, this is a portrait with more basic tools and colour. Typically, there are various brush options, and more complex portraits and prints use at least a few different brushes. In this portrait, I used no more than four brush styles and sizes. When you start off, use a simple colour palette, minimal brush types sizes, and little detail to avoid complications and confusion.
Since I am a self-taught digital artist, I watched a couple of tutorials to learn about the different brushes and all the main controls do. Nevertheless, I experimented with every tool on Procreate until I discovered my favourite tools and brushes. Before jumping right into the swing of things on Procreate, I look back and wish someone would break up the different parts of a digital portrait for me. I hope that infographic has helped me understand the different elements that make up a digital portrait.
Best of luck,
XX Rach
